Pediatric primary care and well-child visits provide a unique opportunity to promote positive parenting practices and connect families to additional resources for healthy brain development.
A new report by Texans Care for Children and sponsored by EHF explores four examples of early brain-building models that can be effectively integrated into health centers, clinics, and pediatric practices.
“To make sure kids get off to a good start, some of the essential ingredients include providing caregivers with information on early childhood development,” writes Katie Mitten, special projects manager at Texans Care for Children. “Pediatric providers have trusted relationships with families and can connect them with needed services and resources.”
Researchers at Texans Care for Children conducted interviews with national experts and on-the-ground staff implementing the four evidence-based models that enhance parent-child interactions and early brain development and are can be implemented by doctors and health clinics.
